My focus when coaching people is how to maximise their own ability behind the wheel, create space, drive efficiently and increase the enjoyment from the vehicle they’re in control of whilst staying on the safe side of fun.

I endeavour to teach a systematic way of driving based on the principle of ‘Roadcraft’, combined with my own knowledge of car dynamics and ADAS systems. A course should give you skills to keep the car moving, and stopped less, allow you to ‘make progress’, and arrive at your destination with reduced risk, greater awareness and less stressed. And with added bonuses of arriving with a smile on your face and using less fuel!

So, what does a typical road day coaching look like?

We start the day with a relaxed chat — coffee for you, tea for me — to fine-tune what you want from the session. Then we head out onto routes I’ve handpicked to challenge and inspire you.

At first, I’ll just let you drive. No pressure, no overthinking — I want to see your natural style and observation skills. From there, I’ll shape the coaching around you, with some open conversations and thought-provoking questions.

Through the day and over a lunch break — I’ll offer guidance in a calm, considered way, refining what you’re already doing well, and ‘unlearning’ the aspects you are doing less well!

This should be about enjoying the drive. We talk, we explore, and we tweak how you interact with the car. By the end, you’ll feel more confident, more capable, and more in control — with a clear sense of how to keep improving every time you get behind the wheel. The course should be a step up on the path of being a better driver.
