Track

“High performance and track driving is fun, until it isn’t. I have 35 years of track experience to call on, to impart, develop a driver.” – Brian Saunders

Track driving should be systematic, progressive, evolutionary, sensory and less reactionary..

The aim being to get driver and machine to work as one, in an instinctive, smooth, and commanding process, where the car becomes an extension of you.

I have many years’ experience working with drivers of all levels, including those who are only just beginning to explore the principles of high-performance driving and track driving techniques, so previous track experience is not a requirement. We will typically over a day delve into driving psychology, human instinct, vehicle dynamics, physics, balance, cornering and braking techniques, as well as car safety systems (ADAS), such as traction control and their limitations, so as a driver you feel in control and have the pleasure of controlling  the car to a greater degree.

What does a typical track day together look like ?

We will have discussed prior your levels of experience, expectations and goals. Meeting at the track for a tea prior to a track safety briefing, we can refresh and hone those aims. These discussions often uncover the issues of the past.

I will always supply an intercom to make communication between us clear without shouting. With drivers who have track experience, my approach is always to see what level of control and speed is already being demonstrated, take the positives, enhance them, and unlearn the areas that need attention. This is a process and creating a fully subconscious systematic way of driving allows the driver to have spare capacity to deal with the variables.

With drivers new to track driving and/or a specific circuit, we start with learning where we are going and creating an understanding of what good feels and looks like. Before long, corners and straights will blend into a beautiful rhythmic flow.
